Jazz Chants - Stimulating Musical Intelligence

         Jazz Chants, invented by Carolyn Graham, is a pedagogical method using rhythms and beats to effectively teach English. For example, you can put the line "Have a good weekend. Thanks, you too" in four beats (find the moment of 3:12 at the Youtube video linked below). According to Patricia et al. (2010), Jazz Chants expose students to natural intonation patterns, idiomatic expression, and common rituals of everyday life. Also, it can make students engaged in sound of the target language in fun, authentic, and effective ways because it stimulates not only verbal-lingual intelligence but also musical one as well. 생생영어 (3) --  I'm done.   다 했다, 끝이다.  세 번째 표현은 I'm  D one  이다. 정말 정말 많이 쓰이는  표현인데, 뜻은   “다 했다, 끝이다, 끝났다”   등의  의미를 갖고 있다. 한국에서는 do- did-done 이런 패턴으로 do 의 현재완료형이라고  배웠던 이 단어는 일상생활에서 다양한 상황에서 “끝”  이라는 표현으로 쓰인다. 예를 들어,  숙제를 하는 친 구가 있을 때 “Are you done?” 이라고 하면 “숙제 다 했어?”  의 의미가  된다. 하지만  밥을 먹는 상황이라면 이 “Are you done?” 은 “밥 다 먹었어? ” 로 된다. 답할 때 는? “I’m done” 이라고 말하면서 “응 숙제 다 했어, 네,  밥 다 먹었어요” 등의 뜻으로 말할 수 있다. 그럼 여 기서 퀴즈!  남녀가 사귀고 있는 상황에서 한 사람이 어느 날 무거운 표정으로 “you know what?   생생영어 (19) - Fascinated by something  ~에 매료 되었다 (반했다) 19번째 표현은 "fascinated by something  ~에 매료되었다 (반했다)" 이다. 미국 사람들이 정말 많이 쓰는 표현인 fascinate 는 능동으로 "this is fascinating " 처럼 쓰면 “야 저거 정말 좋다/매혹적이다의 의미이다. 수동으로 "I am fascinated by this" 라고 쓰면 "나 는 그것에 완전히 매료되었어 (반했어) " 라는 뜻을 갖게 된다. 최근에 테니스를 치는 친구들과 대화하던 중 요즘 ATP Association of Tennis Professionals 1등을 하고 있는 알카라즈 선수의 플레이에 매료되었다는 친구가 있었다. 그 친구가 말하길 “Alcaraz was so fast!
